Transforming Lives With Sound Therapy

Dr. Berard was a medical doctor and inventor from France that developed AIT (auditory integration training). His research and practical experience as a doctor revealed that our hearing is the root of autism, sensory issues, and learning disabilities. He published his book "Hearing Equals Behavior" in 1982. Dr. Berard did AIT on over 8,000 clients. He conducted double blind placebo studies comparing AIT vs. a placebo (no AIT). His results showed clearly that AIT made physiological changes in the auditory processing center of the brain that resulted in the remediation or complete reversal of autism, adhd, tinnitus, dyslexia, sensory issues, depression, hearing issues, tics, autoimmune disorders, ptsd, allergies and eczema. 

Dr. Berard built the AudioKinetron which modulates the music his clients listened to with headphones. The modulated music comes through as slightly distorted and the brain goes to work creating new neural pathways. Neuroplasticity is a relatively new discovery, but this is how AIT works. Our brain is constantly creating new connections. The new "clean" pathways allow the person to hear normally. Nonverbal children can't parrot what they hear because it is too distorted to repeat. Once the new pathways are established the person can hear clearly and begin to learn how to speak a language. The peaks that are reduced by AIT eliminate hyper-acute hearing that can be very debilitating. This can cause meltdowns and tantrums because the child can't shut down the excess noise they hear that nobody else does. For example, my one year old son couldn't go to a beach with waves because it sounded like thunder to him. We could never watch television if he was awake because he could hear the hum of the tube in the tv (old school) and it drove him nuts. Putting the tv on mute changed nothing for him. 

Dr. Berard trained Susan Bailey almost 30 years ago and Susan Bailey trained me. She has provided AIT to more patients and trained more AIT practitioners than anyone in the United States. While Dr. Berard was still alive she worked directly with him and a team of audio engineers to digitize the AudioKinetron. Susan Bailey has the copyright to the modulated Berard Classical Music AIT. There are many "knockoffs" out there claiming to be Berard AIT practitioners. The original AudioKinetrons have failed over time and the factory no longer makes them, which is why Susan created the Classical Berard AIT that I use in my practice. Susan saved Dr. Berard's genius by digitizing it before he passed away. If you find a remote AIT offered online beware that they are not Dr. Berard's original method or technology.   

Annabel Stehli took 500 pages of Dr. Berard's studies to the FDA and they had no other choice but to approve the Berard method of AIT as a tested way to remediate autism, adhd, add, dyslexia, tinnitus, learning and sensory issues. No other method of AIT is FDA approved and has the studies to back it up. I am honored to be carrying the healing torch forward as the only certified AIT practitioner in Hawaii.
